The newly organized Association of PAQE Professionals (APP) elected Bay Loste as its president for 2013.
APP is a non-stock, non-profit organization consisting of patent agents who passed the Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations (PAQE) managed by the Philippine Intellectual Property Office (IPOPHL) and the European Patent Office (EPO).
IPOPHL started administering the PAQE in 2006 pursuant to Office Order No. 70, series of 2006, entitled “Rules and Regulations on the Registration of Patents Agents in the IP Philippines, Amending Office Order No. 129, as Amended.” Since that time, a total of 121 examinees had passed the PAQE.
APP has the following objectives: (1) collaborate with the IPOPHL on matters relating to the patent agent profession, and in particular on the PAQE; (2) disseminate knowledge pertaining to the work of its members and matters relating to patents, by way of training and other modes of education; (3) liaise as appropriate with IPOPHL and other entities on all matters relating to industrial property such as but not limited to patents; (4) promote the patent agent profession and conduct activities aimed towards its recognition as a profession requiring high standards for practice; and (5) encourage and promote mutual friendship and understanding among the members, individuals and organizations practicing the patent agent profession, locally and abroad.
Bay heads the IP Practice Group of the Firm and specializes in the prosecution of patent and trademark applications, IP litigation, and licensing. He passed the PAQE (Mechanical and Electrical) in 2008 and has been assisting in the training of prospective patent agents all over the Philippines since then. Aside from Bay, the IP Practice Group counts two senior partners, two senior associates and three junior associates as members.
